A woman who is disabled as a result of injuries she sustained when she was knocked down by a taxi when she was 14 years old has been awarded £3 million in compensation.
Vicki Hart, now 22, was hit by the taxi while crossing the road in Guisborough, Teesside. She suffered extensive injuries including a broken neck, a fractured skull and a blood clot that later caused her to suffer a stroke.
Ms Hart’s injuries were so serious that she was not expected to survive. She now suffers from severe mental and physical disabilities and requires around-the-clock care.
A personal injury claim was brought against the taxi driver on Ms Hart’s behalf. After a long legal battle, a settlement was agreed with his insurance company and the compensation award has now been approved by the High Court. Mr Justice Spencer paid tribute to Ms Hart’s parents for the way in which they have helped her to cope with her disabilities. The settlement will allow her needs to be met so that she can live as comfortably as possible.
